Jonah prayed to God and asked forgiveness for not going to Nineveh. Suddenly, a big fish scooped up Jonah in its mouth and swallowed him whole. Jonah grew tired and knew he couldn’t swim much longer.
Jonah knew the storm was a message from God, so he jumped overboard. When God saw what Jonah had done, He sent a terrible storm to toss the boat. He wanted Jonah to preach about God so the people in Nineveh would stop being wicked. Here’s how the book reads “One day, God told Jonah to go to Nineveh. If we are true Christians, each of us has some sort of hardship or affliction to endure for the gospel, for Jesus promised that in the world we will experience trouble - it's not a question, it's a guarantee.It is also used of Moses in Hebrews 11:25 when he is said to have chosen to 'suffer affliction with the people of God, than to enjoy the pleasures of sin' in Egypt.
